Suspect caught with suspicious package at U.S. air base in Japan

FUSSA, Japan,  Security at a United States air base in Japan apprehended a suspect seen carrying a suspicious package Saturday.

Yokota Air Base, located about 35 miles from Tokyo, was placed on temporary lockdown when the unnamed suspect gained unauthorized access to the base around 5 p.m.

An all clear was issued at 8:50 p.m. after the suspect was apprehended and the area was secured according to a post on the base’s Facebook page.

“Ensuring the safety and security of Team Yokota is always our top priority,” Col. Douglas C. DeLaMater said in a press release. “Our security forces’ professionalism and immediate response to this potential threat was outstanding.”

An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
