Rocket-hits-Afghan-parliament-building. KABUL, Afghanistan, A rocket struck Afghanistan’s parliament building in Kabul on Monday morning.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in which four rockets were fired. Two landed near the new building, one landed on a nearby army base and one punctured the wall of an interior building in the complex and broke windows. A witness reported seeing black smoke in the air at the point of impact. No casualties were reported.
The attack came as members of parliament’s lower house, the Wolesi Jirga, held a meeting and senior security officers arrived to attend a conference.
Violence in the capital of Afghanistan has increased as NATO and U.S. forces have reduced their presence. A bomb attack Friday on the home of an Afghan politician resulted in a security guard losing his leg.
