LONDON, An allegedly new video from the Isis appeared Monday that showed another British-sounding man in black killing five men.
The man in the 10-minute video doesn’t appear to be the British terrorist known as Jihadi John, and seems to add more evidence that Jihadi John was killed in November in a U.S. drone strike on the Syrian town of Raqqa. But the man in the video is clearly designed to look and sound like him.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, ridiculed in the video, regarded it as little more than the latest bit of brutal propaganda by an organization that is currently back on it’s heels.
“It’s desperate stuff from an organization that really does do the most utterly despicable and ghastly acts and people can see that again today,” Cameron said. “This again shows what an appalling organization we’re up against.”
Cameron said the Islamic State’s recent series of losses on the battlefield, including the loss of high-ranking members and the key city of Ramadi, Iraq last month prompted the terrorist organization to make the video as a distraction.
“It’s losing ground,” Cameron said. “It’s, I think, increasingly losing anybody’s sympathy.”
In the video, five men are kneeling on the ground in orange jump suits like in previous videos. All five claim to be spies for Britain and the man clad in black vows to one-day invade England and institute Sharia law. He then shoots each of the five other men in the back of the head.
The video finishes with an unmasked four- or five-year-old boy in camouflage and an Islamic State headband, saying they will kill the non-believers pointing off into the distance. The boy was identified as the son of Londoner Grace Dare, who converted to Islam and married an Islamic State fighter in Syria.
British intelligence is trying to identify the man who does the killing in the video, attempting to match him to one of about 800 Britons who traveled to Syria or Iraq to join the terrorist organization. British police said about half have returned and about 100 are thought to have been killed.
Jihadi John was shown in videos from 2014 and early 2015 killing American, British, Japanese and Syrian hostages and is known as 27-year-old London man Mohammed Emwazi. But U.S. officials said they are “reasonably certain” Emwazi was killed, so the British press are calling Monday’s executioner “New Jihadi John.”
