At-least-20-killed-in-Afghanistan-suicide-bombings. KABUL, Afghanistan, At least 20 people were killed in two suicide bombings just hours apart in Afghanistan on Saturday.
The first attack took place near the governor’s compound in Kunar and killed at least 12 people and wounded 40 more. Hours later a second attack near the defense ministry building in Kabul killed at least nine people and injured 13.
A bomber on a motorcycle targeted Tribal leader Hajji Khan Jan in the Kunar attack. He was killed in the blast that also injured several children playing in a nearby park. Jan was responsible for leading an uprising against the Taliban in his home district of Dangam.
No group has formally claimed responsibility for the Kunar attack, but Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the second attack in Kabul in an email sent to media.
Officials from Afghanistan, the United States, China and Pakistan have invited the Taliban to peace talks in early March, but it is unclear if they will attend.
