5 dead in mid-air collision over Alaska

RUSSIAN MISSION, Alaska, Five people were killed in a mid-air collision between two small planes over a remote area of Alaska on Wednesday morning, Alaska State Troopers said.


The collision took place near the towns of Bethel and Russian Mission, Alaska, about 376 miles west of Anchorage. The cause of the crash is unknown, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Allen Kenitzer.

A Hageland Aviation Cessna 208 Caravan with three people on board collided with a Renfro’s Alaska Adventures Piper PA-18 Super Cub with two people on board about 11 a.m., the Alaska National Guard said. There were no survivors.

Investigators and a transportation disaster assistance specialist from the National Transportation Safety Board have been dispatched to the scene, the NTSB said. The FAA is also investigating.
